The question is how to get a green card? Well, I won the green card lottery in 2008 and boy am I glad! I applied online and kind of “forgot” about it (or at least I tried to). It’s always at the back of your mind and sometimes, it’s difficult to make plans for the future becauseyou’re not sure if it will happen to you or not.
After getting the green card lottery results, man, I was so excited! but it took a while to get all the requiste forms and stuff ready in order to get the final go-ahead. I lived in Sierra Leone and I had do a medical,
go to Ivory Coast etc and it was all costly. But with the help of friends, family and also the online agency through whom I did my green card lottery application! Didn’t expect it but yeah, they paid for my airline ticket and that was a big help.
Anyway, to cut the long story short, I’ve now started my new life in Maryland. I’m undertaking a Masters course and for now I’m concentrating on that. I’m working as well and the income is for my upkeep.
The good thing is I don’t have to hide from anyone as I have all the right documentation.

In my experience the green card application processing was easy when I applied online. You just fill in the form once and each year during the application window, your application is forwarded again to the immigration department.
One thing I must say though, it is important NOT TO LIE, on the application. If you’re unmarried you should state it. In my case I wasn’t and it did not affect me.
However, if you have applied previously using fabrecated stories and you keep re-applying using different stories and different names, obviously it may have an adverse effect on you.
The truth will always come out. The USA immigration department are already suspicious of every application. And with modern technology like scanning and photocopying etc, every application you make is documented and may come back to haunt you.
The reason, I write this is that, I know people who have messed up their chances because they lied and most of it is to do with green card marriage etc.
My advice? Simple truth will get you there.
Also once you apply online, all the ground work is done for you year after year until you win. All you need to do is BE PATIENT and focus on your current life and how to make it better. Only 50,000 people win in a year. That’s not a lot compared to the number of people who apply. It’s not easy but there’s nothing sadder than putting your life on hold until you win the green card. What if you don’t?

My quest for a green card started roughly 5 years ago when I was still a student studying for my university degree. The economic outlook of Sierra Leone looked so bleak, I thought, “I have to get out of here, if I want to make anything out of my life.”
Coincidentally, I bumped into a “so-called agent” who took pictures of me, I filled in forms but never heard of anything nor saw him again.
After some online research, I realised that I did qualify. I mean to get a green card application you must have EITHER a high school education or its equivalent, defined in the U.S. as successful completion of a 12-year course of elementary and secondary education OR two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years of training process or experience to perform.
Better still, I realised I could apply online instead of leaving my fate in the hands of a scammer or middleman I didn’t know.

I paid for 4 years multiple submissions and just waited. I mean these people would submit my application every year until I won. This made me rest easy and focus on my studies. I must admit it’s hard to concentrate on matters at hand when you wish to go abroad.
